Skin tags are small loose pieces of skin that hangs out from the rest of the skin on your body. No one, including doctors, can say definitively what causes skin tags. It is believed that they are caused after mid-life, during and after pregnancies, menopause, and by being over weight where skin rubs against skin until skin tags result. It is also believed that susceptibility to developing skin tags is hereditary and is passed through families genetically.
The techniques and methods of removing skin tags shown below are not to be considered medical advice or recommendations. They are being shown simply to inform you of ways people have removed skin tags in the privacy and comfort of their own homes.
Some people have herbal extracts like Dermisil and others mixed to form a cream for topical treatment of skin tags. This kind of treatment only attacks the tags tissues to cause them to dry up and fall off without causing any harm to any other healthy skin.
You can also tie a thin piece of string like dental floss, thread or fishing line tightly around the skin tag. This will effectively stop the flow of blood to the skin tag which will cause it to dry up and fall off within a week. You should keep the skin around the tag clean with alcohol or some other antiseptic.
There has been some success in removing skin tags by completely covering the tag with fingernail polish twice a day until the tag shrivels up and disappears, usually within two weeks.
One more drastic way of taking a skin tag off is to sterilize a pair of scissors or a large nail clipper and use them to cut the tag off. You will want to put a lot of alcohol on the cutting instrument before cutting. You will also want to clean the skin around the tag with alcohol prior to making the cut. After cutting the tag off, clean the area with peroxide and apply pressure till you get the bleeding stopped, then cover with sterile gauze or a band-aid until the area is healed. If the area develops any kind of infection see your doctor right away.
There are many other methods to cause skin tags to dry up and fall off and you may want to talk to a herbalist or holistic healer for other treatments that you can try at home.
If none of the home remedies work for you, you can still consult a Dermatologist for professional medical treatment.
